President Michael D Higgins has spent a second night in hospital.
The 84 year old has been in St James Hospital in Dublin to have a localised infection examined and is on a course of antibiotics.
It's hoped the President will be discharged today but it depends on the advice of his medical team.
He was admitted on Sunday and it was originally thought he would spend a few more days in hospital.
Áras an Uachtaráin says President Higgins' medical team has noted a "significant improvement" in his condition since he began a course of antibiotics.

He will depart the Áras in two weeks' time, following the inauguration of his successor, Catherine Connolly.
