Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather said it will be a tough few hours: "It will turn very wet and windy as we go through late this afternoon."
"The outer bands of Storm Austen will bring very heavy rain up through the country."
Vulnerable road users will be at extra risk.
Motoring expert with Car Zone, Conor Faughnan, urges people to not drive through flood water: "Breaking distances are much more increased. Visibility is much worse."
Meanwhile, Storm Boelo has been named and will track by the country on Saturday.
It's expected to pass to the north-west of the country, bringing strong winds and heavy rain.
Met Éireann says weather warnings for Saturday have yet to be announced.
