16 Year Old Among 56 Covid-19 Related Deaths Reported Today

This evening, the Department of Health confirmed 56 additional deaths relating to Covid-19.

Of the 56 deaths recorded today, the youngest was 16 years of age while the eldest was 97.

31 of of today's cases occurred in February, 13 took place last month and three occurred last year.

As of midnight last night, there have been 575 confirmed new cases of the virus.

Of today's cases, 67%  are under 45 years of age.

The median age is 34 years old.

Most of today's cases were identified in Dublin, where there are 175 new cases.

Elsewhere, there are 43 new cases in Kildare, 37 in Galway and 35 in Meath.

The remaining 227 cases are spread across all other counties.

Meanwhile, there have been 35 additional hospitalisations in the past twenty-four hours.

In total, there are 652 Covid-19 patients in hospitals - 137 of whom are in intensive care.

The 14 Day incident rate is 231.4 per 100,000 population.

As of Sunday the 21st of February 131,898 people in Ireland have received both doses of Covid-19 vaccine.

Meanwhile, 222,073 have been administered their first dose.

CMO Encourages Public To Hold Firm Ahead Of Schools Reopening

Meanwhile, the Deputy CMO Dr Ronan Glynn has encouraged people to sustain their efforts to supress the virus.

"It is vital that we get our children back to school over the coming weeks."

"A key part of making this a success will be out continued collective by-in to the public health measures that are tried and tested."
