The study has analysed Covid-19 restrictions in 185 countries.

As it stands, Ireland has the second softest Covid-19 restrictions in the world.

The research was carried out by Oxford University's Blavatnik School of Government.

The study looked at the severity of government measures and regulations in place to slow the spread of the virus.

Mongolia is the only country that has a more lenient approach to Covid than Ireland.

In contrast, a year ago Ireland had the eight-most stringent lockdown in the world according to the same researchers.

On January 22nd, Ireland lifted the majority of Covid restrictions.

Cases have risen in the last few weeks with the resumption of St Patrick's Day celebrations.

New hospital figures show 1,569 people are being treated for the virus, which is a jump of 111 from yesterday.

In contrast, hospital numbers stood just above 600 around a month ago.

Politicians and advocacy groups have called for facemask regulations to return in light of the hike in cases.
