For the 12th year in a row, Dingle International Film Festival (Dingle IFF) is offering four days of screenings from talented filmmakers all over the globe, covering all genres of film, whilst also hosting major industry figures from Ireland and abroad at a wide range of fantastic events. Dingle IFF 2018 promises to be the biggest yet, with a highly extensive programme that makes room for everyone. Offering unique screening experiences, and with a high calibre of stars attending seminars and workshops, this festival is an experience that you will never forget.
Dingle International Film Festival is couched within the breath-taking town of Dingle on the Dingle Peninsula and is part of The Wild Atlantic Way. Housed within this Gaeltacht area, Dingle IFF is proud to promote the Irish language. It is the only festival offering an award for Irish Script writing with its Físín event. Dingle is home to many filmmakers, is one of Ireland’s only independent cinemas, is a known film location (Star Wars, Ryan’s Daughter, Far and Away), and is a major tourist destination, making it the perfect home for our festival.
Dingle IFF is a sought-after event which exhibits film in unique locations. These locations include: The Phoenix Cinema, built in 1937; and the fully HD 200-year-old St. James’ Church. Our festival club nights are held in a variety of traditional pubs each evening.
Dingle IFF’s prestigious Gregory Peck Award, which celebrates excellence in the art of film, has been awarded to renowned industry players since 2008. Recipients have included: Golden Globe winner Gabriel Byrne; 2-time Oscar nominated Laura Dern; 6-time Oscar nominated Jim Sheridan; 2-time Oscar nominated Stephen Frears; and Jean-Jacques Beineix. In 2016, the festival presented The Peck Family the Gregory Peck Award in Santa Barbara to celebrate Gregory’s birth centenary.

There are some fascinating films and events to attend at Dingle IFF 2018:
Kissing Candice (Saturday 24th at the Phoenix Cinema).
Director Aoife McArdle, in collaboration with the Irish Film Board, makes her feature debut. 17-year-old Candice longs to escape her seaside town and finds solace in her imagination. When her disillusionment calcifies into an obsession with a troubled stranger, she becomes entangled with a dangerous local gang.
Sami Blood (Sunday 25th at the Phoenix Cinema)
LUX prize winner Sami Blood demonstrates the exclusion of a Scandinavian ethnic minority. Elle Marja is a reindeer-breeding Sami girl. Exposed to the racism of the 1930's and race biology examinations at her boarding school, she starts dreaming of another life. To achieve this other life, she must become someone else and break all ties with her family and culture.
The film will be presented exclusively at the festival with both Irish & English subtitles, supported by The EU Parliament.
Ava (Sunday 25th at the Phoenix Cinema)
13-year-old Ava plummets into a world of discovery after learning she will become blind. On a vacation beside the coast with her family, her mother acts as nothing has changed. Ava decides to embrace her freedom while she can. Ava is director Lea Lysius’ first feature.

Wonda VR (Friday 23rd at the Dingle Hub)
This one-day workshop is an introduction to virtual reality and an initiation to Wonda VR. Attendees will be presented with the essential elements of VR and interactivity within a 360° environment. Based on a given workflow, participants will learn how to write, shoot and edit their own immersive experiences with Wonda VR.

Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival – Best of the Fest Tour
VIMFF tour the world each year with their award winning and selected films. In Dingle, they will present the best of their world tour: a special presentation of film, culture and the outdoors, perfectly fitting for the surrounding geography of Dingle.
Dingle Pow-Wow (Saturday 25th March at The Blasket Centre)
Dingle Pow-Wow will bring together professional industry leaders from Ireland and abroad for a banter and a chin-wag on their careers. It will be held in The Blasket Centre on March 24th 2018, from 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pow-Wow provides a unique and inspiring opportunity for enterprising filmmakers to gain more insight and knowledge about the global film and television industry. Ray Donovan Panel:
Director, Michael Uppendahl (Ray Donovan, Mad Men, American Horror Story) and Paula Malcomson (Ray Donovan).
Michael Uppendahl is an American television and film director. Since 2008, Michael has been a recurring director on many of the most beloved American television shows in history, including: Mad Men (2008-2015); American Horror Story (2011-2016); Glee (2012); Ray Donovan (2013-2015); The Walking Dead (2013); Daredevil (2015); Legion (2017) Fargo (2014—), including two episodes from Season 3 this year. Michael also made his feature film directorial debut with Quad (aka Grounded) (2013), about a hard-living salesman who becomes a quadriplegic after an accident. The film starred Aaron Paul, Oscar-nominated Tom Berenger, Jeff Daniels, Tom Sizemore, and Oscar-nominated Lena Olin.
Paula Malcomson began her career in the early 1990s with small parts primarily in film before scoring higher-profile roles in the Oscar-nominated film The Green Mile (1999) and A.I Artificial Intelligence (2001). Since, Malcomson has made appearances in many high-profile series, including ER (1994), Lost (2004) and Liev Schreiber's Showtime series Ray Donovan (2013-2017).
Rising Contender:
Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, Killing of a Sacred Deer).
From Dublin’s Summerhill district, Keoghan got into acting without experience or formal training. He earned parts on U.K and Irish television, including the hugely successful Love/Hate (2010-2014) and small roles in movies, including Í›71 (2014) and Traders (2015). He was cast as George in Christopher NolanÍš’s World War II drama, Dunkirk, released in 2017. Later that year, Keoghan appeared opposite Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman, playing a charming and disturbing young man in Yorgos LanthimosÍš’s The Killing of a Sacred Deer.
For Kids
Dingle IFF pride ourselves in offering something for all ages, and this year we are happy to provide some phenomenal children’s entertainment with our screening of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt along with the wonderful 2 Balloons (St. James’ Church, Sunday 25th March).
Christmas in Dingle
A screening of the animation Angela's Christmas and a selection of shorts will be presented. The film is a touching and poignant story about the power of family and the innocent desire of a child to ensure everyone is warm, safe and loved at Christmas time.
After the screening, children will have an opportunity to meet Santa Claus.
