Two men are fighting for their lives after a serious assault in Limerick.

The first man, aged in his 20s, was found with stab wounds when Gardaí were called to a house at New Road in Thomondgate at around 2.30 this morning.

The man was treated at the scene by Emergency Services. He was then rushed to University Hospital Limerick where his condition is described as critical.

A second man was then found by gardai at another property a short distance away, on Cross Road in Thomondgate.

He is aged in his 40s and is also being treated for critical injuries in UHL.

Both houses have been sealed off for forensic examination and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

They are asking anyone who was in the area this morning - Monday, 27th March -  between 2.00 am and 3.00 am to come forward. This includes any road users who may have camera/dash cam footage.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station at 061 212400 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.
