Oscar winner Glen Hansard has died.
The 56 year-old singer-songwriter passed away in a motorbike crash in Dublin in the early hours of this morning.
The frontman of the Frames since the 1990s, also acted in Bafta winning movie "The Commitments" and "Once".
The romantic musical drama earned the Dublin native an Oscar with his co-star and co-writer Markéta Irglová for the song "Falling Slowly".
His representatives at ATC Management have released a statement, saying: "With broken hearts we announce the passing of Glen Hansard who passed away, in the early hours of this morning, following a road traffic accident in Dublin.
"Glen's family is deeply shocked and heartbroken by this tragic loss and respectfully requests privacy at this extremely difficult time.
"The family is grateful for the support they have received and wishes to thank the emergency services who attended the scene.
"As this matter remains the subject of an active Garda investigation, no further comment will be made at this time."
The 56 year old, who was from Ballymun, described it as an amazing, mad experience in his Oscar's acceptance speech.
He died in the early hours of this morning in a motorbike crash at the Strawberry Beds in Lucan.
The singer was treated at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later.
He had a series of gigs planned for the coming months including in London, Helsinki and Stockholm.
The musician was due to headline this year's Puca Festival.
In a statement, the festival says words cannot ease the pain of such a loss, but it joins music fans around the world in remembering the extraordinary artist.
Dublin's Lord Mayor has opened a book of condolence.
Cllr. Darryl Barron has expressed his shock and sadness at the singer's death.
He received a Lord Mayor's Award in 2024 for his busking to help the city's homeless.
Dublin City Council says he will be remembered fondly by generations to come.
