Last month is set to be named the wettest July on Irish record.

Met Eireann has released provisional rainfall data for the past few weeks.

This perhaps won't come as much of a shock to anyone who spent time outdoors last month.

July '23 had four times more rainfall recorded than the same month last year, and twice as much as 2021.

The previous wettest July on record was 2009, which was not far behind this year in terms of long term average rainfall.

Met Eireann's data shows the highest amount of rain recorded in one day last month was at the Dunsany station, in County Meath, on the 22nd of July.

That was closely followed by the Oak Park station in Carlow on the 10th of the month.

Twelve stations had their wettest July on record - with a station in Dublin breaking an 82 year old record.

Another station at Shannon Airport broke a record that had stood for 77 years.
