It's 10 Years Since The Regency Hotel Shooting

Today marks 10 years since the Regency Hotel gun attack in North Dublin.

David Byrne was murdered at a boxing weigh in, when members of the Hutch Organised Crime Group burst into the event dressed as a Garda SWAT team, armed with AK-47s.

Two other people posed as a couple in the event, one dressed in drag.

Footage from inside the event at the time, showed how panic ensued at the weigh in, as people ran for the exits when gunmen opened fire.

Armed gardai and the Criminal Assets Bureau carrying out searches on homes and businesses in Dublin targeting the activities of a south inner city-based crime group linked to David Byrne, who was murdered in the Regency Hotel.

The attack accelerated a feud between the Hutch and Kinahan Organised Crime Groups, which saw 18 people were murdered.

Three innocent people are included in that figure.

Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch was found not guilty David Byrne's murder in 2023.

Detective Chief Superintendent David Boland of the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau said, "this investigation has resulted in the conviction of four males in connection with this murder".

A fifth man has been sentenced for firearms offences.

"There are people out there who have information that, without a doubt, have information that could allow us to bring people before the court", Boland said.

"Investigations like this are never shelved," he continued,  "new information can lead us to new evidence".
