Investigations are continuing today following a fatal stabbing in Finglas, Dublin 11.

23 year old Brandan Ledwidge died after he was shot in his driveway on Barry Drive shortly before 7 o'clock on Saturday night.

He was treated at the scene before being removed to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Reaction

Local Sinn Féin Councillor, Anthony Connaghan, says the incident has shocked the community.

He believes an increase in crime can be directly linked to a lack of funding and facilities in the area.

"As soon as there's a shooting,  people think there's going to be revenge now, and this will lead into a cycle.
But in fairness, the Garda have have done their best.
They have been around visually and overtly and covertly.
But it's not just Garda resources that needed in the area.
It's a part of a plan where family resource units, youth services, addiction services, they've all been cut to the bone over the years."

Gardaí are carrying out house-to-house inquiries following his murder.

Forensic officers have been examining the scene and detectives are looking for mobile-phone, dashcam and CCTV footage.

No arrests have been made.
