Electric Picnic organisers say microphones wont be switched off if performers make politcal statements this weekend.

It comes as the Mary Wallopers had their performance silenced at a festival in the UK, and controversy over multiple Kneecap performances recently.

Kneecap are among the performers on the main stage in Stradbally this weekend, along with Fatboy Slim and Chappell Roan.

Melvin Benn from Festival Republic says it was really important for them to add Kneecap to the lineup:

"No mics won't be switched off."

"They're great kids, they're great lads," he said about Kneecap, continuing with "they've got really important songs, they're brilliant live but they've also got really important messages."

"They didn't do anything wrong at Glastonbury, its yet to be proved whether they've done anything wrong anywhere else anywhere in the world."

"So they're on home territory here, and I think they'll be really relaxed and the crowd will be really appreciative of them."
