It comes amid calls from INMO to improve the working conditions of nurses.

It has emerged that staff at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin have been using baby monitors.

The staff have been using the monitors to care for ICU patients due to staff shortages.

In St Vincent's, the baby monitors are setup at two beds in the ward that staff can't get around to.

The staff numbers at certain hospitals aren't enough to monitor all of those who are critically ill.

It follows a recent survey by the INMO that found that 90 per cent of nurses face mental exhaustion.

As a result, the survey found that 68 per cent are considering leaving the profession.

The INMO are now warning that nurses are facing an unprecedented increase in workload demands.

Healthcare staff have been relied upon to operate in the frontline during the pandemic.
