Government inaction in providing financial bonuses to healthcare workers is another reason young nurses are leaving Ireland.

That’s according to the INMO who are part of a group of unions calling on politicians to reward frontline workers for their efforts during the pandemic.

The group is criticising government for promising financial bonuses for healthcare staff but not delivering them.

The union wants to see a financial reward or 10 extra days of annual leave given to frontline staff for their efforts during the crisis.

Similar benefits have been granted in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Healthcare workers in Northern Ireland received a 570 euro bonus last month in recognition of their work during the pandemic.

Over 30,000 healthcare workers have contracted Covid-19 since the pandemic began.

According to the latest 14 day epidemiological report, more than 600 have the virus.
