Two distinct possibilities for how this year's Leaving Cert will be run have been identified.
One is full written exams with modifications to the papers to provide further choice.
At 5 to 5 on a Friday (!!) the Department of Education puts out a release inviting stakeholders to further talks on two options for the Leaving Cert. One is written exams with greater choice. The second a "corresponding measure different to examinations"

The other is an alternative option that could include calculated grades.
The second option would also take more account of things like practicals and orals.
It may also include some element of written exams , with details yet to be worked out.
The Department is also putting a priority on ensuring whatever option they go with, students can get timely access to third level next year.
So a decision is far from made, and these talks could drag on for a number of weeks.
Also this not-very-illuminating release is the result of weeks of negotiations. WEEKS. Leading to an invite to further talks. So don't expect a full answer on what the LC will look like anytime soon
