Covid-19: 68 Additional Deaths And 556 New Cases

The Department of Health has been notified of 68 deaths related to Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

50 of those deaths occurred this month, 15 took place in January and two deaths occurred in December.

The date of one death identified is currently under investigation.

The median age of those who died is 85, with the age range between 43 and 96.

Meanwhile, the Department has also been notified of 556 new cases of the virus.

284 of today's cases are identified in men while 568 are in women.

Most people -60% - are under 45 years of age.

The median age is 39 years old.

Most of today's cases were identified in Dublin, where there are 163 new cases.

Elsewhere, there are 45 new cases in Limerick, 38 in Galway, 34 in Cork and 29 in Waterford.

The remaining 247 cases are spread across all other counties

Meanwhile, there have been 54 additional hospitalisations in the past twenty-four hours.

In total, there are 1,104 Covid-19 patients in hospitals - 182 of whom are in intensive care.

The 14 Day incident rate is estimated to be 319 cases per 100,000 population.
