Couple gets engaged amid Black Lives Matter protest

A couple got engaged during a Black Lives Matter protest in North Carolina recently.

During a chat with E! News, protester Xavier Young revealed the proposal nearly didn't go ahead.

Young told E! that he and his partner Marjorie Alston had decided they weren't going to go to the protest at all.

The reason being, he was busy so he couldn't go, and he didn't want her going alone because she's pregnant.

Young however, cancelled his plans in order to attend the march.

He said he packed a bag for the protest and made sure to sneak the ring in.

However, he, 'completely forgot,' the ring was in his bag.

It wasn't until he stopped for water that he saw it and decided to pop the question there and then.

Photographer Charles Crouch just happened to be there for the proposal.

He told E! News, 'I had my camera with me to document it for my company, 4C Visuals Group.'

'I just happened to be standing right there when he went down on his knee. I began taking pictures.'
