Sex Education alternate ending

So it turns out season two of Sex Education could have ended in a completely different way.

The director of the series, Ben Taylor reveals all in a new interview with BT TV this week.

***Warning: season two spoilers ahead***

The second season of the hit Netflix series dropped on Friday so you've probably already binge-watched it.

However, here's a quick recap to get you up to speed:

Maeve finally plucks up the courage to tell Otis she has feelings for him.

While we sit at home shouting at the TV screen, Otis rejects Maeve and insists he's crazy about his girlfriend Ola.

It all falls apart for Otis when Ola dumps him for her best friend Lily.

With Otis and Maeve both single, viewers are convinced they'll get together - wrong.

Otis leaves a voicemail for Maeve after realising how much he really does love her.

He tells her this in the message and mentions how proud of her he is.

When he hears nothing back, he goes to her home in the Caravan Park.

Just as he arrives, Maeve leaves in the opposite direction.

Otis asks Maeve's neighbour Isaac, who has feelings for her, to tell her to check her voice mail.

Isaac however, does the complete opposite and deletes the message altogether.

The final scene shows Otis and Maeve walking up the same hill in different places.

And that's it... After 16 episodes, we still don't see these two get together.

The alternate ending

The director of the series Ben Taylor teases us by revealing he shot an alternate ending.

He tells BT TV, 'I shot a thing just to see. Just to be naughty, because occasionally I can be.'

Ben goes on, '[The] shot you see in the finale is Otis and Maeve going off in different directions and it finishes on a single slow-mo tracking shot of each of them.'

However, he reveals the alternate shot saw the pair meet on the hill.

The director told actors Asa Butterfield and Emma Mackey to act as if they'd just seen each other.

But he admits he's happy with the current finale, 'I think shoes will be thrown at screens. In a good way.'

He continues, 'I love being p***ed off at stuff. You think you want it, but you don't.'

'I think about it all the time, because you want [the show] to be satisfying and nourishing and all the right things.'

'They don't get it [in the ending], but five minutes before on screen, Eric gets a moment with Adam which for me is one of the greatest romantic gestures.'

Ben explains, '[Eric and Adam] get it. They get their moment. But if you go around and give everyone their moment it may get a bit sugary.'

'The people that were the most pissed off were Emma and Asa...'

'They just really want the closure for their characters. But you’re not going to get that yet.'
