SPIN Southwest is proud to take part in One Day: Many Voices.
On September 24th, SPIN Southwest will be dedicating a whole day of programming to celebrating and uplifting the voices of young people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
Throughout the day, you will hearing stories you might not normally hear on the radio. From young trans people and disability activists, to people working with young asylum seekers, and autistic adults finding creative employment
Listen out for an exclusive interview with Beth Clancy on Fully Charged. Beth is a teenage trans rights activist who, alongside their best friend Jonah, have organised Limerick’s only Trans Pride event.
And our presenters will be getting involved too. Reporter Ella Anderson, who is leading SPIN’s content for the day, will be putting Jamie and Faye through a series of real-life scenarios around diversity and inclusion. From accidentally getting someone’s pronouns wrong, to knowing how to ask a disabled person if they need help. They’ll be finding out what to do, what not to do, and how small changes can make a difference.
There’ll be plenty more stories across the day too.
We’ll hear from two young people from Belong To about what it’s like growing up LGBTQ+ in Ireland today. They’ll share their experiences and advice for other young people who might be questioning their identity.
Closer to home, we’ll visit Áthas Print Studio in Limerick, where screen printing is providing meaningful employment and experience for young neurodivergent adults.
And listen in for a chat with Doras about the experiences of young migrants and asylum seekers arriving in Ireland, including what young people can do to help someone who is new to the country feel welcome.
At 1:30pm, all stations participating in One Day: Many Voices will come together for a special shared piece of audio, taking over the airwaves to highlight the importance of inclusion and equity in radio.
Then, to wrap up the day, Ella will join Pete and Pádraig for a One Day: Many Voices quiz. Testing how much they’ve picked up throughout the day and putting some of the facts and stories they’ve heard to the test.
