James Corden talks 'intoxicating' sudden fame

James Corden admits he needed therapy after the fame from Gavin and Stacey went to his head.

In an interview with The New Yorker this week, the talk show host says he became a bit of a, 'brat.'

James' career kicked off after the success of Gavin and Stacey which he both wrote and starred in.

It all happened very quickly and he admits the fame became incredibly, 'intoxicating.'

'It's so intoxicating, that first flush of fame. And I think it's even more intoxicating if you're not bred for it.'

James tells the publication, 'I started to behave like a brat that I just don't think I am.'

His mother Margaret adds that she often tried and failed to bring him back down to earth.

She explains, 'You can try and say, "Look, James, you're making a prat of yourself," but you can only do so much.'

Margaret reveals James' sisters used to tell him to stop being such a, 'd***head.'

It got so bad that even his Gavin and Stacey co-stars began to notice.

Rob Brydon plays Uncle Bryn in the series and he admits he had to pull the actor aside for a chat about his behaviour.

Rob recalls, 'I said, "Look, this is a bit awkward to say, but I'm just hearing these things about you, and you've got to know that the way you behave has an effect on people."'

Shortly after this, James made the call to go see a therapist.

At his first session he said, 'I used to be a better person than this.'

The late night talk show host says he forced himself to stop partying so much.

And one of the hardest things he learned was to find comfort in being alone.

'The absolute biggest thing I had to learn to do was just stay in and be comfortable on my own.'
