Jason Momoa has officially stepped away from Sony’s upcoming adaptation of Helldivers.

No reason has been given for the actor’s departure from the project, which is being directed by Justin Lin. Sony is now reportedly searching for a replacement lead and additional cast members ahead of production.

Based on the popular sci-fi shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios, the film follows an elite military force known as the Helldivers as they battle alien threats to protect the planet Super Earth. The movie remains scheduled for release on November 10, 2027.

Momoa was only announced as part of the cast in February, making his exit a surprising development for the project. The actor remains busy with a packed slate of upcoming roles, including appearances in Dune: Part Three, Street Fighter and Supergirl.

The Helldivers franchise debuted in 2015, with Helldivers 2 becoming a major hit and helping fuel interest in the big-screen adaptation.
