A jury has been sworn in to hear the trial of three men charged with violent disorder and assault causing harm at a nightclub in Limerick city.

Those accused include five-time All Ireland winning hurler Kyle Hayes.

The 25-year old hurler with an address at Ballyashea, Kildimo, Co Limerick, is charged with two counts of violent disorder.

One allegedly happened inside Icon nightclub on Upper Denmark Street in Limerick City, as well as one outside the nightclub, on October 28, 2019.

Mr Hayes is also accused of assault causing harm to a 24-year-old man in the vicinity of the ICON nightclub, on the same date.

24-year-old Craig Cosgrave of Caherally, Grange in Limerick, is charged with violent disorder inside the nightclub on the same date.

While, 22-year-old Jai Chaudri of Carheeny, Kildimo in Limerick, is charged with violent disorder outside the venue, and assault causing harm.

The three accused were arraigned this afternoon before judge Tom O’Donnell at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court.

All three accused spoke only to confirm they were pleading “not guilty” to all of the charges against them.

The DPP said it expects the trial to last a week - but it may continue into next week.

Judge O’Donnell remanded the three accused on continuing bail to appear for trial at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court tomorrow morning.
