In a statement issued this afternoon, Carlow College - St Patrick's says the future for the college was decided following a lengthy and detailed internal and external review process.
All current students will be able to complete their studies, but no new student intakes will be offered from September 2026.
While there will be a phased redundancy process for the 87 staff currently employed there.
The college, founded in 1782 and is the second oldest in the country.
Speaking on the announcement, President of Carlow College St. Patrick's Fr Conn Ó Maoldhomhnaigh said: 'This decision was made with due regard to the best interests of our students and staff.'
