Willie O'Dea TD said, "I very much welcome the allocation of for 2021 for Shannon Airport, which will contribute towards capital investment in the areas of safety, security and sustainability at the airport."

This funding is on top of the €8 million allocated for Shannon Airport last November and in addition to the €5 million in Budget 2021.

The Government also agreed last year to fund a feasibility study to look at connecting Shannon to the rail network via a spur to Sixmilebridge.

"Shannon Airport will also be eligible to apply for operational grant-aid, targeted at vital safety and security related operational expenses later this year.  Almost €20 million is available during 2021 for air traffic control, fire services and security-related expenses which will help ensure that airports can continue to remain compliant with regulatory requirements in these areas."
