O'Donnell Welcomes Further Extension Of 10 Months To Driving Licences
Limerick and North Tipperary Fine Gael TD, Kieran O’Donnell has welcomed the announcement by Hildegarde Naughton TD, Minister of State at the Department of Transport of a further extension of expiry dates for driving licences which have not benefited from a previous extension.
Licences expiring between July 1st and 31st October 2021 will have 10 months added to the expiry date.
“I very much welcome the announcement today by Hildegarde Naughton TD, Minister of State at the Department of Transport of a further extension of expiry dates for driving licences which have not benefited from a previous extension.
Licences expiring between July 1st and 31st October 2021 will have 10 months added to the expiry date.
This will come as relief to drivers who have not received a previous extension and will alleviate any concerns of not being able to access an appointment to renew their licence at an NDLS centre due to high service demand.

An example of the extension is as follows, (drivers can check date of expiry on the physical driver licence, which can be seen at opposite number 4b on the licence shows):
5 July 2021, the new expiry date is 5 May 2022.
5 August 2021, the new expiry date is 5 June 2022.
5 September 2021, the new expiry date is 5 July 2022.
5 October 2021, the new expiry date is 5 August 2022.
“Also importantly, if you are a driver who has benefited from previous extensions and the new renewal date is falling due you must renew it with the NDLS.
I would encourage all drivers who are unsure of their licence expiry date and have not received a previous extension to now check their new expiry date following these new changes today on here.
Any driver can renew a driving licence within three months of the new expiry date.
When your driving licence is due for renewal, you can renew it online on www.ndls.ie.
To renew it online, you must have a Public Services Card (PSC) and a verified MyGovID account.
