Nurses have voted to accept a Government plan for safer staffing.

62 per cent of INMO members are in favour of the proposals, which follow a number of strikes earlier this year.

The deal struck this afternoon includes a commitment to safe staffing levels and a higher salary scale for staff nurses and midwives.

INMO members downed tools for three days back in January and February in a dispute over staff shortages and pay.

Proposals to end the strike included 5 million euro in funding for safe staffing levels in 2019, with extra funding in the next two years.

INMO General Secretary Phil Ní Sheaghdha said:

"We are extremely proud of the safe, patient-focused strike organised by our strike committees."

“The government have committed to full implementation of these proposals."

"We now seek an immediate meeting with them to ensure this happens without delay."
