Kieran O’Donnell Puts Forward Plans To Keep Vaccinations Numbers On Track In Limerick.
Following the announcement that Limerick Racecourse Vaccination centre is to close for 5 days during June and July, Limerick TD Kieran O’Donnell has further followed up with the HSE and Minister for Health putting forward two proposal options for an alternative vaccination plan to be put in place immediately.
This would ensure the 17,000 vaccinations are administered which will otherwise be lost with the 5 days closure here.
This vaccination centre is currently opened from 8am to 8pm daily, operating 7 days per week apart from these announced 5 closure days.
It is currently administering approximately 3,400 daily and 24,000 weekly vaccinations.
The two options proposed by Deputy O’Donnell involve either alternative vaccination centre(s) operating on these 5 closure days or increased hours of operation at the Limerick Racecourse vaccination centre over the six week period up to 22nd July to make up for the vaccinations shortfall due to these 5 closure days.
Furthermore, Deputy O’Donnell has sought assurance and confirmation from the HSE that there is an available supply of vaccines for Limerick and Mid-West to ensure these 17,000 vaccinations can be administered before 22nd July under either option he has proposed.
“I am proposing two possible alternative plans for serious consideration by the HSE to ensure there is no delay in the roll-out of 17,000 vaccinations that could otherwise be lost with the 5 days closure of the Limerick Racecourse vaccination centre on June 12th, June 18th, July 4th, July 10th and July 22nd respectively.
The first option I propose is that the HSE operate alternative vaccination centre(s)in Limerick on these 5 closure days to ensure the normal 3,400 daily vaccinations are administered.
My second option proposal is for the HSE to increase the hours of opening at Limerick Racecourse vaccination centre over the 6 week period up to 22nd July to ensure the 17,000 vaccinations are administered which will otherwise be lost with the 5 days closure here over June and July. This vaccination centre is currently opened from 8am to 8pm daily, operating 7 days per week apart from these announced 5 closure days. It is currently administering approximately 3,400 daily and 24,000 weekly vaccinations.
Furthermore, in this regard, I have sought direct assurances and confirmation from the HSE that there is an available supply of covid19 vaccines for Limerick and Mid-West to ensure these 17,000 vaccinations can be administered before 22nd July under either the first or second option as I have proposed.
The Covid19 vaccination programme to date in Limerick and the Mid-West has been a successful one and this is something I have always acknowledged publicly as well as the fantastic HSE staff involved in this programme.
However, in view of the recent high Covid19 numbers in Limerick, it is imperative that we continue with the increased vaccination roll-out capacity the new vaccination centre at Limerick Racecourse affords.”
