Four UK zookeepers self isolate at work

Four zookeepers in the UK have moved into the wildlife park they work for in Cornwall in order to care for the animals.

After the country went into lockdown, the Paradise Park employees volunteered to self isolate at work.

Izzy, Emily, Layla, and Sarah-Jane will live in the sanctuary for the self-isolation period.

Director of Paradise Park, Alison Hales told Bored Panda that their zookeepers are all, 'really dedicated to the animals.'

She went on to explain that some of their employees, 'have vulnerable family members at home.'

They made the decision to move into the park to care for the animals, 'without risking the health of their families.'

Izzy pointed out that if all staff become unwell, at least she and her three co-workers will be able to pick up the slack.

The four zookeepers will continue to train the eagles, vultures, hawks and other bird species.

They'll be caring for over 1,200 birds alongside mammals such as red pandas, red squirrels and more.

It's a magical place to work

Alison told Bored Panda that it's a very, 'magical,' place to work.

She said, 'It’s magical to walk around once all the feeding and cleaning has been done, quietly observing the birds going about their business.'

'You can chat to your special bird friends for a bit longer, but the best bit is waking up to a tropical dawn chorus in deepest Cornwall!'
