Staff retention and a lack of talent in some areas are key contributors.

More than half of employers plan to raise salaries in 2022 as inflation continues to rise.

Many employers say they will do so based on performance, promotion or to keep staffing levels intact.

Meanwhile, 35 per cent of employers say they are undecided whether they will increase pay.

The report was carried out by Excel Recruitment, who reached out to employers and employees.

According to the director of Excel Recruitment, Shane McLave, the pandemic led to mass staff exodus.

"The pandemic caused a shift in people’s priorities heralding the emergence of the ‘Great Resignation’ or the ‘Great Re-evaluation’" he said.

The study found that income is no longer as dominant when considering moving jobs.

Four in ten people cited salary as the main reason for working elsewhere in the 2022 survey.

70 per cent were in favour of a hybrid working environment of spending time at home and in the office.
