Covid-19: 1,167 New Cases And Three Further Deaths

The Department of Health has confirmed three deaths and 1,167 new cases of Covid-19.

Of the cases confirmed today, 263 are in Dublin, 142 in Meath, 137 in Cork and 86 in Cavan.

The remaining 539 are spread across other counties.

The 14 day incidence rate of the disease nationally is now at 291.

314 people are being treated in hospital with the virus - an increase of 27 in the past 24 hours, while 34 people are in ICU's.

CMO asks people to stay at home when possible

Level 5 restrictions will come into affect tonight, in an effort to limit the spread of the virus.

Commenting on today's figures Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said:  “Everyone needs to stay at home, other than for essential reasons.

"Follow the public health advice and treat everyone that you come into contact with as though they are a close contact of someone with COVID-19 – keep your distance, avoid meeting others.

"We are facing a big challenge, but we have faced this challenge before, and that means we know how to suppress this virus, by following the public health advice in everything we do, he added.

As of 2pm this afternoon, 314 COVID-19 patients were being treated in Irish hospitals - including 34 in ICU.
