Applying online to get your passport is a quicker option than the postal method, according to a Fine Gael TD.
Dublin Mid-West TD Deputy Emer Higgins has said that the turnaround time for Passport Online renewals is between 10-15 days, however the average time for Passport Express applications currently stands at eight weeks.
She stated that people are unaware that online application is a quicker option, due to the misleading nature of the Passport Express name.
Deputy Higgins said a change to the name would save people a lot of confusion and ensure that everyone is aware that applying online is the quickest option.
"There are so many people who have missed holidays or family events abroad because of delays renewing or processing passports for new babies. I think that's really unfair on them. I think a real simple, quick and easy rebrand of passport express would save people time, money and confusion."
