SPIN chats to Michael Moloney

SPIN presenter Sarina Bellissimo caught up with 14-year-old Michael Moloney for a chat about his new music recently.

You'll remember he performed on The Late Late Toy Show last year, where he met Dermot Kennedy.

Sarina asked Michael how he got a spot on The Toy Show in the first place.

He explained he and his mother decided to enter when it was announced they were accepting applications.

The young performer said they entered, "for fun."

He performed a version of Ed Sheeran's Supermarket Flowers on video and sent it off.

"After a few weeks, we got called back for a second audition, and that was to sing [Dermot Kennedy's] Giants."

Michael had no idea how to play the song, so he spent the weekend before the audition learning it.

"One day I came home and my mum was like acting a bit suspicious."

"Then she told me, 'You're going to be on The Late Late Toy Show...' the excitement is still in my head..."

"When I think back to it, that moment was just amazing."

He said he had no idea they were planning to send Dermot Kennedy on stage during his performance.

"It was just mind-blowing. Such a crazy moment, you know."

Sarina told Michael she was incredibly impressed by how he handled the situation.

Even with Dermot Kennedy standing next to him, singing along, Michael still managed to keep going.

"Once I kind of considered what was happening and my brain caught up to what I was doing... I just couldn't stop."

"It was such a magical moment... I was just having so much fun!"

New music

Michael recently released his brand new song All That I Do, and it's stunning.

The track was written for and inspired by his late dad, who passed away four years ago.

'It was like a lightbulb moment, why don’t I write a song about my dad?'

'This song was different from my other songs.'

'I was writing about a real-life event that happened, and the lyrics embodied how I felt about my dad passing away.'
