The Grammy Awards have officially been postponed due to the current Omicron surge.

On Tuesday, we shared the news that the awards were ‘likely’ to be delayed and now its official.

In a statement, the Recording Academy and broadcaster CBS said: "After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual Grammy Awards show.

Meaning this is the second year in a row that the famed music awards have been postponed because of COVID-19.

Last year the awards were eventually held 6 weeks later in a smaller venue, with limited capacity. So hopefully we haven’t long to wait in 2022.

Reasons For The Postponement

It's understood that The Recording Academy would prefer to delay the event to host it in a full capacity arena, due to the ticket revenue.

Show organisers would have to forgo ticket-generated revenue if they hosted a smaller version of the world-famous music awards, as they did in 2021.

The show was due to be held at the Arena, formally the Staple Center in Los Angeles, but given today's news this could all change.

In their official statement, the Grammys added, “The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority”.

We can’t wait for the new date of 'Music's Biggest Night' to be announced.

Grammy Nods

The Grammy Award nominations were announced late last year on November 23, 2021.

Band leader of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jon Batiste is the top nominee with 11 nods. Jon is closely followed by Doja Cat, H.E.R., and Justin Bieber with eight nominations each.

Billie Eilish and 2021 breakout star Olivia Rodrigo are tied on 7 nominations.

This year marks the first time that the Grammys have had 10 nominees in each of their Big Four categories. That’s album, record and song of the year plus best new artist.

In November last year, all the Grammy Nominations were announced and SPIN had the full load down.
