Piers Morgan responds to Sharon Osbourne apology

Sharon Osbourne showed support for Piers Morgan following his controversial Meghan Markle comments.

She appeared on The Talk during the week and took part in a debate on whether or not Piers' words were racist.

The TV personality has since taken to social media to apologise, and Piers believes she was, 'bullied,' into it.

During Meghan's Oprah interview, she claimed conversations were had within the Royal family about the colour of her son's skin.

She also spoke about her struggles with mental health, and admitted she had suicidal thoughts.

Following the interview, Piers made it clear on Good Morning Britain that he doesn't believe her.

Shortly after Ofcom received thousands of complaints, ITV announced his departure from the show.

At the time, Sharon took to Twitter to show support for her friend, 'I am with you. I stand by you.'

'People forget that you’re paid for your opinion and that you’re just speaking your truth.'

Piers appreciated her support, and responded, 'When stuff like this happens, true friends run towards you, fake friends run away.'

'I love Sharon Osbourne because she always stays true to herself.'

'She knew she would get abused by the woke brigade for tweeting this - but did it anyway because it what she believes.'

The Talk

On American chat show The Talk, Sharon was quizzed by her co-hosts over her decision to support Piers.

Sheryl Underwood said she believes Piers' words were racist.

Sharon responded by saying she's unaware of any racist comments made by her friend.

She asked, "If he doesn't like someone, and I think this is for everybody who isn't born white, if Piers doesn't like someone and they happen to be black, does that make him racist?"

"Why can't it be that he just doesn't like her? Why does it have to be racist?"

The apology

After facing major backlash for her words, Sharon issued an apology on social media.

She wrote, 'I have always been embraced with so much love and support from the black community and I have deep respect and love for the black community.'

'To anyone of colour that I offended and/or to anyone that feels confused or let down by what I said, I am truly sorry.'

She continued, 'I panicked, felt blindsided, got defensive and allowed my fear and horror of being accused of being racist take over.'

'There are very few things that hurt my heart more than racism so to feel associated with that spun me fast!'

'I am not perfect, I am still learning like the rest of us and will continue to learn, listen and do better.'

Sharon added, 'Please hear me when I say I do not condone racism, misogyny or bullying.'

'I should have been more specific about that in my tweet.'

'I will always support freedom of speech, but now I see how I unintentionally didn't make that clear distinction.'

Piers responds

Piers believes his friend was, 'shamed,' and, 'bullied,' into issuing an apology.

He responded, 'Sharon's been shamed & bullied into apologising for defending me against colleagues accusing me of racism because I don't believe Meghan Markle's bullsh*t.'

'This is where we've reached. I demand an apology from those @TheTalkCBS bullies for their disgraceful slurs against ME.'

No further comment has been made.
