Phillip Schofield opens up

This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield has opened up about the struggles he faced with his sexuality.

He appeared on Lorraine this week, where he recalled the time he didn't show up to work.

At this point, the pressures of his hidden sexuality had become too much to handle.

Phillip recalled, "I was in the car coming down the M40, and I was writing an interview with Annie Lennox."

Referring to his struggles with his sexuality, he said, "It had never crept into work... ever."

"Here, work was my sanctuary."

"You know, that's where I could forget about everything that was going on in my head."

Phillip said they were approaching work, when he suddenly asked his driver to take him to his London flat.

When he got to his home, he contacted his wife and told her he couldn't do the show.

"I sat alone in the flat, staring at the walls..."

Phillip revealed he made the, "very stupid mistake," of turning his phone off.

"I sat alone in the flat, staring at the walls, as This Morning started on the other side of London."

"All my closest friends knew how ragged my head was but no one except Steph knew why."

Phillip admitted, "It was a very, very silly thing to do."

"Because you know, I think people thought that I may have done something stupid, which I wouldn't have done."

Coming out

The talk show host went on to discuss his decision to come out on This Morning.

He said the cast and crew called it, "The Event. The WhatsApp group was, 'The Event.'"

Phillip said he hated the fact that he had to plan his coming out so meticulously.

"Everyone who knew had to know in the right order..."
