Ryanair Pilots Vote For Strike

Irish-based Ryanair pilots have voted to join their British colleagues on the picket lines.

The strike could mean major disruption to the airline's flights at the height of the holiday season.

180 staff were balloted and 94 per cent voted to strike for better pay and working conditions in a vote held by their trade union, the Irish Airline Pilots' Association.

Union leaders say they'll strike unless the airline responds to their pay demands by Monday.

Ian McDonnell from the FORSA trade union says pilots feel they're not being paid what they're worth.

"We've decided to give the company until Monday the 12th to respond to our pay proposal to give them an opportunity to take time to consider can they come back and accept the proposal or come back with a very robust response," he said.

"But we do need a comprehensive response and a significant move from their present position," he added.
