Over 73 thousand young people will receive their Junior Cert results today, the third year in a row the figure has been higher than 70 thousand.
A change from last year means those who achieve 85 per cent or higher will now be awarded a distinction, while those who score between 70 and 80 per cent will receive a merit mark.
The Teacher's Union of Ireland have welcomed the changes, saying it's important that student's hard work is recognised and it will help to build young people's confidence.
Students can access their results online through the State Examinations Commission portal at www.examinations.ie from 4.00pm. Students will need their examination number and PIN to log in.
