We're being told to be mindful when buying a Christmas jumper.
Colleges such as DCU, UL and UCD have already had their college Christmas, but other colleges like TUD are having theirs today.
Research from the charity Oxfam shows a quarter of shoppers plan on buying novelty clothes for the festive season.
However it's estimated millions of Christmas clothes will be thrown away after just one or two wears.
Labour Senator Rebecca Moynihan is encouraging people to buy second hand:
"Be a little bit more conscious and where possible, try and get what's already there... can you tap into the swaps or circular economy?"
