Young people are being urged to register to vote ahead of Thursday's deadline.

The National Youth Council says over 126,000 people have come of age since the last general election last year.

It's calling on those people to sign up before another ballot is called.

James Doorley, NYCI Deputy Director, has this advice:

“This does not just apply to those currently aged 18-29 years."

"Any person who turned 18 since the election in February 2020 and is not registered, but also any young person who is currently 17, but will turn 18 by the 15th of February 2022, can apply for inclusion in the 2022/2023 register."

Anyone who is unsure can log onto checktheregister.ie and if they aren't on the list, apply through the local council.

There's a list of local authorities on this website in the second section, where it explains how and where to go about applying.
