Thousands Without Power This Morning As Counties Feel Storm Barra Effects

A Status Red Wind Warning remains in place for Cork and Kerry until 9 pm.

Thousands of homes and businesses are without power this morning.

Storm Barra hit the south and west coasts from the early hours.

The River Lee has burst its banks in Cork City with videos emerging of flooded streets on socials.

A wind speed of 113km per hour was recorded off the county's west coast.

As a result of the Storm Barra effects - many businesses in Cork and Kerry are without power.

Sinead Ryan of the Imperial Hotel in Cork is one of those caught in the thick of it this morning.

She said they had to get flood barriers in place before the water flooded the hotel.

"It just stops the lobby flooding and the cafe. The last time it flooded ... it went up past my ankles."

A red warning comes into effect for Co. Clare this afternoon, with counties on the East Coast under an orange warning.
