Taoiseach Says Covid Restrictions May Lift From Next Week

NPHET are meeting today to discuss the easing of restrictions, as Micheál Martin said some restrictions could begin to lift next week.

There are positive signs and signals from Government figures who have been optimistic recently regarding the current wave of the virus and the potential for an easing of some restrictions in the very near future.

An Taoiseach said the current restrictions had been due to stay in place until the end of the month however this is now subject to change.

The National Public Health Emergency Team are expected to approve the removal of the 8pm curfew for the events and hospitality sector, this restriction has been in place since before Christmas.

Cabinet will meet tomorrow to consider NPHET advice before the Taoiseach makes the announcement tomorrow evening on what this decisions will be taken by government.

The Taoiseach said this morning that he will make a ''clear and comprehensive statement'' to the nation tomorrow evening.
