A shop in Donegal which has been giving away ashes for Ash Wednesday have run out of supplies!

It's one of a number of ways the Catholic Church has been trying to allow people celebrate day while being safe.

Many parishes around the country have been allowing church-goers to take some with them, and to apply them at home.

Most are providing them in small sachets, which have all been blessed.

Fr Fergal Cunnane, from the Dunmore parish in Galway says they have over 300 sachets ready to go.

"We'll see how the day is going, if we need to get more we can do that."

Fr Cunnane expects a "good take up" in the initative.

Meanwhile people in the Clonmany parish in Donegal can pick up a container of ashes with their chicken fillet roll.

The local church has teamed up with a Centra store in the area, but they have run out of the 200 containers already provided.

Parish Priest Fr Brian Brady says they're working to get more.

Fr Brady said "This idea came up as a way to allow the tradition of ashes to be continued in the homes of people in the parish."

Other innovations include a drive-thru in Clonakilty where people can have their ashes handed to them in sachets while they sit in their cars.
