Single use plastics on the way out

Ireland is to ban single use plastics, including straws, cotton buds and cutlery by the year 2021.

Yesterday the European Council approved the ban of ten single use plastic items that are polluting beaches and seas.

From June, Ireland will have two years to introduce new legislation banning 10 items including single-use plastic plates, cutlery, straws, balloon sticks & cotton buds.

It comes as England has announced a similar ban by April next year.

The ban on single use plastics by 2021 will prohibit the top ten most frequently found items polluting European beaches.
