Updated Covid-19 guidelines on outdoor gatherings has been released allowing for 200 people at events.

The new guidelines published by Fáilte Ireland today, which mainly impact live performances, will now permit multiple "tables" being bookable for outdoor events - with the capacity now at 200 people.

The guidelines state that there can be no "intermingling between tables."

With tables of a maximum of six - the same as indoor settings.

Restaurant Association head, Adrian Cummins, says this is a rule impossible to enforce:

"I don't know how people expect our industry to police this," Cummins said, "this issue of trying to stop people moving from one table to another, I mean that's total nonsense in my opinion."

The attendance limit of 200 people is also stated to have "robust protective measures”. Being very dependent on the area of any particular event.

Attendees will remain at their tables, 2-metres from the nearest table in any direction.

Contact tracing will also be required, as well as all safety precautions including face coverings, cleaning stations, ventilation etc.

Self service at events will be permitted in locations which can provide adequate queueing space, which must be monitored - but events with food are being encouraged to consider pre-prepared meals.

Allocated smoking areas will also be required.
