Storm Barra is set to hit counties across the country today.

A Status Red Wind Warning is now in place for those in Cork and Kerry.

From 6 O'Clock this morning - the weather warning became valid in the counties.

County Clare will also see a red warning come into effect today at 4 pm this afternoon.

The Road Safety Authority is advising those in red counties not to travel at all costs.

Brian Farrell of the RSA has warned those of the consequences of travelling this morning.

"For the duration of the weather warnings, the advice is very simple," he said.

"We are advising people not to travel - to stay off the roads."

"A red warning is a very rare occurrence. It means a threat to life."

Gusts of over 130 km/h are expected in Cork and Kerry until 9 pm tonight.

The Status Red warning in Co. Clare will be in effect until the early hours of Wednesday.
