One of Ireland's first babies of 2021 arrived just four minutes past midnight.

Brody McWilliams Brown was born this morning at the National Maternity Hospital Holles Street.

His parents Jennifer McWilliams and Eric Brown says being among the first was unexpected.

Ms McWilliams said "I had no clue until I was induced that he might be one of the first."

"A few comments were made [by hospital staff] just laughing about it but we didn't actually think that he'd be the first."

Other early 2021 births were celebrated in Midlands Regional Portlaoise, The Coombe, The Rotunda and Our Lady of Lourdes Drogheda.

The first baby of the decade was also born in the capital last year.

Patience Setuke's baby girl arrived in the Rotuna Hospital weighing just over seven pounds.
