Number Of Homeless Children Above 3,000 For the First Time In Over 2 Years

The number of children in homeless accommodation has gone above 3,000 for the first time in over two years.

It comes as there's 10,000 overall living in B&Bs and hotels for the second month in a row.

The figures from the Department of Housing measured the number of people who were accessing emergency acocmmodation between May 23 and 29th this year.

It shows there were 10,325 which is an increase of 2.7 percent on April's total.

There are 3,028 children living in B&Bs and Hotels which is up 2.8 percent on the previous month, and is the first time the total has gone above 3,000 since April 2020.

The largest number is in Dublin, which has more than 5,100 homeless adults.

The total from the Department of Housing doesn't include rough sleepers, women in refuge centres, Direct Provision or Ukrainian refugees in pledged accommodation.
