Protests have been held around Ireland calling for solidarity with the people in Palestine.

More than 20 rallies were organised across the country including in Dublin, Belfast, Derry, Galway and Wexford.

It’s estimated that between three and five thousand people attended the rally in Dublin city centre  which finished up at the Israeli embassy in Ballsbridge.

Solidarity People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd-Barrett addressed the crowd calling on the government to act.

"There will be promises to re-double the efforts to bring about peace but there will be no action. There will be no condemnation from the government at least," The TD said to the thousands gathered in the capital.

These marches come as humanitarian aid reaches Gaza following the recent 11 day war between Israel and Palestinian militants which left well over 200 people dead.

A ceasefire was agreed on Thursday which appears to be holding up for the time being, however there have been calls for a more long term solution to be reached.
