They are the women who've been under the most public scrutiny over the past twelve months, so all eyes were on the ladies of the Trump household yesterday to see how they would mark International Women's Day.

Ivanka and Melania Trump hosted a lunch at the White House to celebrate women across the United States, with ladies from all walks of life in attendance.

They First Lady and her step-daughter were also joined by Senior Advisor to the President, Kellyanne Conway who has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past few months. She first tabled the phrase "alternative facts", while on another occasion she gave a plug for Ivanca's fashion line during a live TV interview about official state business.

The Trump administration has faced much backlash after Donald's previous comments about women during the campaign trail and before. A huge issue last September that threatened to put his bid to become the President in jeopardy was the release of an Access Hollywood video which appeared to show Trump making crude and offensive comments about women. The day after his inauguration millions of people worldwide gathered for a Women's March in protest to his presidency.

All these issues combined lead to the Republican having an extremely poor approval rating among women during his first few months in office. Yesterday was seen as a chance to mend some broken relationships, as the two most famous females from the First Family hosted an event in the White House, highlighting some of the extraordinary work being carried out by women across America and indeed all over the world.

The event received some frosty reactions on social media, however it still went ahead. Have a look at home highlights below.
