Kerry Legend Mick O’Dwyer Celebrating 85 Years Of Age At Home In Waterville With HaloCare
Kerry Legend Mick O’Dwyer recently celebrated his 85th birthday at home in Waterville, delighted to be still living in the home where he and his wife Mary Carmel raised their four children.

Kerry’s eight time All-Ireland Senior Football Championship winning manager was known throughout his footballing career for his independent streak and that trait hasn’t diminished over time.

Indeed it was his determination to continue to live independently in his own home that led his son John to HaloCare, a Carlow Company that offers a suite of assistive technologies to support older people living in their own homes in the case of a fall or emergency.

"Dad is very happy in the family home surrounded by mementos and memories of many happy days.

It was important to us that he continue to live there, but he isn’t as light on his feet as he once was! A friend introduced us to HaloCare and it has given us all great peace of mind, knowing that Dad is safe at home, where he wants to be." said John O’Dwyer.

HaloCare offers a suite of assistive technologies with live, around-the-clock support to older people living in their own homes.

HaloCare’s smart technology installed in the home can detect a fall even if the person is unable to call out for help.

The entire system is underpinned by an experienced team of nurses and care specialists at the company’s 24/7 Care Hub in Carlow town.

The result is a greater independence for the older person to live in their own home, increased health and safety awareness, and reduced loneliness, whilst their privacy and dignity is protected at all times.

David Walsh, CEO, HaloCare said:

"Most older people want to stay in the comfort of their own home for as long as they can.

However, there’s always a worry; what if they have a fall or medical emergency in the middle of the night or indeed other times when there’s no one there to help.

Our technologies are unintrusive – there are no cameras and no equipment taking up space in the home.

Their home is still their home but with the added benefit of a 24/7 support system that includes fall prevention, personal and environmental safety, social and cultural interconnectivity, and much more.”

As a proud Kerryman, I am honoured that Mick O’Dwyer and his family have put their trust in HaloCare and we are delighted that he has joined our growing HaloCare community.

We have been humbled by the incredible response since we launched HaloCare and we are adding new customers daily.

The Covid pandemic has shone a light on care for our older citizens and family members are making renewed efforts to keep loved ones at home for as long as possible.”

Sitting in comfort beside his fire, Mick O’Dwyer said:

"I’m very lucky to be well enough to continue to live at home and please God I will continue to do so.

The HaloCare technology is great, I don’t even know it’s there, I just go about my business living life as normal.

It gives me great confidence and my family  don’t have to worry as much about me and I’m happier too knowing that help is at hand if I need it.”.

As for Kerry’s chances in the Championship this year, Micko’s eyes light up.

"I’ve been watching all the games and they’re looking good.  It’s early days in the Championship but I’d be confident that we’ll have a day out in Croke Park in August!”
