Kerry County Council Issue 31 Fines For Dog Fouling

No fines were issued in the county in 2020.

Kerry County Council issued 31 fines for dog fouling in 2021.

Penalties for pet mess were not being strictly enforced in some parts of the country.

Galway City Council and two Dublin local authorities failed to issue any fines to pet owners in 2021.

According to The Irish Times, Kerry County Council dramatically increased fines from none in 2020 to 31 last year.

Independent Councillor for Castleisland, Jackie Healy-Rae, says dog owners in Kerry have taken responsibility.

"Kerry County Council this year so far between January and now have carried out 17 joint patrols of their dog and litter wardens."

"They found that 92 per cent of the 90 dog owners that they spoke to on those joint-patrols have their doggy bags."

Limerick City and County Council issued four.
